War Drama: Valkyrie- 2008

Wounded in Africa during World War II, Nazi Col. Claus von Stauffenberg (Tom Cruise) returns to his native Germany and joins the Resistance in a daring plan to create a shadow government and assassinate Adolf Hitler. When events unfold so that he becomes a central player, he finds himself tasked with both leading the coup and personally killing the Führer. Bill Nighy and Eddie Izzard co-star in this drama based on actual events. (Per Netflix.com)

Grade: B-

This was a very well acted movie, with an interesting insight into the fact that not all Germans, and specifically Nazis, were actually staunch supporters of Hitler's regime. Tom Cruise was great in this part. One thing that I particularly liked was the transition from German to English in the beginning of the movie. I mean, sure, when we watch movies that take place in other countries we know that they should be speaking their own language, but, considering that Americans are an English speaking country, unless we wanted to read subtitles the entire time, it would have to be in English. I liked that they took note of that fact, and gradually changed to English. All in all, it was a good watch, considering that I'm not a huge war movie fan.
